GET YOUR LICENSE, GET A JOB

Advocacy

Drive-To-Work is widely recognized as a leader for its expertise on driver’s license issues in Virginia. Since 2008, we have worked closely with state legislators on more than two dozen new laws that improve opportunities for relicensing for drivers.

The benefits of these legislative and regulatory reforms are consistent with public safety and are in the interest of all Virginia drivers, not just Drive-To-Work clients.

During the 2024 General Assembly session, Drive-To-Work championed two bills that unanimously passed the legislature:

  •  One law prohibits any license suspensions due to driving during a period of suspension or revocation from extending beyond 10 years from the date of conviction.
  • The second law authorizes the court to order a restricted license to operate a motor vehicle to a judgment debtor who has had his driver’s license suspended for failure to satisfy certain judgments.

We work closely with our community partners across the private, public, and nonprofits sectors to expand opportunities for our clients.

This includes developing reentry programs for local jails, expanding our Blue Ridge Mile Program at Washington and Lee University to other colleges across Virginia, and forging relationships with judicial, legislative and executive officials.
