Drive-To-Work helps low-income or previously incarcerated persons to get their driver’s license so they can drive to work and keep a job.
We provide the legal services of attorneys to eligible individuals to remove the causes of their license suspension.
DTW Driving School offers classroom and online driver improvement clinics and an eight-hour Driver’s Manual Refresher Course for persons failing the DMV written test three times.
We advocate for changes in the law to improve opportunities for people to have their driving privileges restored or to receive a legal driver’s license.
Since our founding in 2007, we have received more than 14,7050 inquiries from individuals and their families:
- Most of our clients are from Virginia, with many in the City of Richmond, Henrico County, Chesterfield County, the City of Petersburg, and the City of Norfolk.
- We have helped people in 35 states and Washington, D.C.
Our History
Drive-To-Work was founded by O. Randolph “Randy” Rollins, a lawyer and former Virginia Secretary of Public Safety. In that role, where he supervised the Department of Corrections and Virginia Correctional Enterprises, he learned what a challenge it was for previously incarcerated persons to get a job and the importance of having a driver’s license.
Mr. Rollins retired as president in 2020 and remains committed to the organization’s mission.
Sara R. Wilson, an attorney, former DTW board member, and retired director of the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management, succeeded him as President and CEO.
